Residential Youth Counselor - Schaeffer Children's Shelter

POSITION OVERVIEW

Residential Counselor - Schaffer Children's Shelter - Schenectady, NY
Base pay rate is $17

$1,000 Sign on Bonus for Full-time *
**will receive first half of sign on bonus after completing 90 days of employment and will receive the second half after completing 6 months of employment**

Residential Youth Counselors are responsible for providing provide everyday therapeutic care and programming according to agency policy and governing bodies' (DSS, OMH, JCAHO, etc.) standards and requirements for pre-school, latency, and adolescent clients who are emotionally disturbed.
ESSENTIAL tasks AND RESPONSIBILITIES
   » Engage the youth in activities and conversation that are age appropriate and at the appropriate developmental level
   » Document in writing a summary of each shift
   » Lgain the history and specific issues connected with the youth who requires 1:1; will lgain how to safely manage any crisis
   » Seek and obtain training in any particular area specific to the youth who requires 1:1care
   » Transport 1:1 client for medical, mental health, and other essential needs
   » Must be able to work within trauma informed framework of program, including identifying and using coping/safety plans, maintaining
   » Engage and form positive relationship with all youth served
   » Complete all mandatory trainings according to programmatic guidelines
   » Display basic competency in TCI techniques
   » Follow outlined program routines, therapeutic plans of youth, and program rules and protocols
   » Work as part of a team including colleague residential counselors, clinicians, on line oncall, managers, and other administrative and functional support staff
   » Maintain respectful and appropriate communication with internal and external customers,including county workers, medical staff, parents etc.
   » Complete and maintain documentation to meet programmatic and regulatory standards
EDUCATION and/or practice
Associates degree preferred; HS degree required.
Valid Driver License is required
